Trombone Lessons
“Your patient, encouraging, detailed instruction has made all the difference in the world!”
Welcome, students and parents!
I offer expert private instruction in trombone, bass trombone, and euphonium (baritone horn) to students of all ages and playing levels. I teach in my home studio in Aspen Hill, MD, where students enjoy an environment dedicated to brass playing and my extensive library of books and recordings. I have a comfortable waiting room with TV and WiFi, where visitors can relax and maybe receive an occasional visit from Buffy or one of his three brother cats.
Online Lessons
During the coronavirus pandemic I have been seeing most of my students online using Zoom, which has the best settings for sound quality. I will be conducting online lessons for as long as social distancing is a concern.
My Teaching Philosophy
My approach is to help you achieve your personal goals as a low-brass playing musician in an efficient and enjoyable way. My studio is oriented to teaching students who love music, enjoy playing their instrument, and want to improve their playing and achieve their musical goals through regular practice at home.
What You Will Learn
I have many years of experience as a performer and teacher, and am comfortable in styles ranging from classical to jazz and pop music. All students can expect to work on the following areas of playing:
Fundamentals: posture and proper breathing; relaxation; open sound and tone; articulation; scales and chordal technique
Etude and repertoire studies Stylistic exercises
Solo and ensemble preparation
Introductory music theory and/or basic jazz improvisation (optional advanced work)
